We are a store that carries screenplays to buy, but we know and understand that you may just want to read a screenplay without having to purchase it, and some of the studios do provide free screenplays online for you to check out.
I can't stress enough the importance of reading screenplays if you want to be a writer, and I will keep saying it even if you tell me to stop. And to be able to keep reading you either got to be able to pay for it, or you need to find them for free. Especially in these economic times it is important to save money where you can.
Here are a few sites to help you get started in your search for free screenplays to read:
- Scribd.com - This site is like the youtube of books, pdfs, and scripts. Go there and do a search
- Google.com - Trying using this search phrase "index of" screenplayname filetype:pdf
- SimplyScripts.com - Many new and current screenplays
Please make sure that the script you are reading is a legal copy! Sometimes there will be illegally distributed copies that the movie company did not authorize to be viewed or downloaded online. We do not condone reading free screenplays unless you have the legal right to do so. So be smart when looking for screenplays online. Besides that you don't want to pick up a virus!
There are many sites that have screenplays, but you won't find all of them online. It just won't happen. Hollywood is very protective of their intellectual property, which they have a right to do so, and we are a strong believer in protecting creative rights.
